If you would like to forward a domain address that you have to some other domain or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is directed to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

In case you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take you only a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel included with each plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added this kind of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have built a site via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, such as Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks within your Control Panel.
